2012 Pre-Stone Anniversary Brunch

The tradition of pre-arrogant decadence continues!

Once again we’ll be feeding the masses before the annual sojourn up the hill to attend Stone’s Anniversary Celebration. As in years past, the Tasting Room will open at 8:30am with an incredible carb-laden spread and 42 taps of fresh Port Brewing / The Lost Abbey beers.

Pre-Stone Anniversary Brunch
Should we pick you up for brunch or just nudge you?

  • What: Pre-Stone 16th Anniversary Brunch
  • When: Saturday, August 18, 2012 – 8:30am to 11:30am
  • Where: The Lost Abbey / Port Brewing, San Marcos, San Diego County, CA
  • How Much: No entry fee. Food is free. Standard pricing for beers.

But wait — there’s more! This year we’re taking it to even greater heights!

For the first time, we’re proud to announce our partnership with Churchill’s Pub & Grille and Executive Chef A.G. Warfield. Chef A.G. will be serving an epically and appropriately arrogant menu, perfectly prepped and paired for craft beer’s paramount party.

Carnivore, Vegetarian or Omnivore, you’re guaranteed to be impressed and well-sated by a buffet as impressive as the many beers to come throughout the day.

As always, the food is free and the tasters regular price. It’s just our — and Churchill’s — way of saying Happy Birthday to Stone and thanks to all the craft beer lovers of the world! (We’ll have more details on the beers and food next week as we get closer to the big event.)

Come early, come hungry, and be prepared for a day of stories from start to finish.

Box Set Track 7 Releases This Saturday, July 21, 2012

Rosemary’s got a new baby and its name is Track 7.

This Saturday, July 21, 2012 we’re releasing the seventh beer in our Ultimate Box Set series, a Remixed Track that’s a tribute to INXS seminal 1988 classic, The Devil Inside.

With Track 7 we dug back into the archives to find a few barrels of Veritas 006, spiked them with rasperries and cherries, and topped it off with the zest of fresh mandarin oranges. It’s a fruity pucker-puss with an ABV of 8.12%

You’ll find the beer details (blend, ABV, liner notes, album art, etc.) on the website here. Details on the other Box Set beers can be found on the Box Set home page.

As with all Box Set releases, the beers must be consumed on site, same day. Unopened bottles may not be carried out. Each bottle is 375ml and is $15 each.

Kelsey: Lost Abbey’s Prom Queen

Kelsey

Lead Bartender, fashionista and overall Bad A$$, Kelsey took a few minutes to answer some questions… giving us a bit more insight into what makes her tick. Enjoy!

1. Picture this: We’re building a Lost Abbey Restaurant, and letting the staff each craft and name a meal on the menu… What would be your culinary creation?
No idea, but I would imagine pickles would be involved… and it would probably be disgusting

2. Besides knowing sign language, what other talent do you have that you hide away? Follow up question: Why do you hide that talent like Frodo hides The Ring?
I can perfectly recite every lyric as well as sing the various harmonies to each song on the Pitch Perfect Soundtrack. I could see how the average human being would possibly want to hide a skill like that from the world…but I’m not your average person-so it’s more a point if pride for me. As a matter of fact, I want to listen to that soundtrack RIGHT NOW!

3. What’s your favorite movie to fall asleep to?
Since I was a wee one, whenever I was sick, I would watch the entire Anne of Green Gables/Avonlea series. I would go in and out of sick consciousness while watching 6 hours worth of pure victorian era based entertainment.

4. As a published “Fashionista” (http://bit.ly/16xNcGe)  – What’s your next daring fashion adventure? (And before you ask, I did have a Rupaul track playing in the background as I was writing this question… It’s also Ryan’s “Zen afternoon” song)
I went though a slight “leg warmer phase” but then Summertime decided to show up. In hindsight; I’m not sure how I even feel about that phase. But in all actuality; I don’t know if I could survive without my denim jacket. It satisfies my old desires to resemble Kelly from Saved By the Bell.

5. Amanda Bynes? What’s up with that chick?
Oohhh Mandy, that girl-gotta love her. I think she’s a class-act-good-time, I’m not going to lie to you, I see a bright future for her and I developing a fairly serious friendship.

6. It’s a scientific fact that you can’t go 15 seconds without smiling… you’re most likely smiling as you read this question… What do you picture in your head that keeps the happy thoughts flowing?
Ugh, I was smiling when I read that…how well you know me Mr. Martinez. I smile for the same reasons anyone smiles, such as thoughts of my next adventure, pickles, Zac Galifanikis (Is that how you spell his name? Whatever, he’s dreamy), crocodiles, breakfast burritos and tallying up how many bottles of Inferno I have consumed in any given day…these are a few of my favorite things.

7. It’s also a scientific fact th you have a sharp wit… So sharp in-fact that I am afraid to come to the tasting room because you’re going to hurt me mentally… Why don’t you tweet more?Let’s get serious here, it is considerably important to me that people have an equal amount of fear of me but at the same time feel drawn to me. I pride myself on the ability to terrify or offend a dear and unsuspecting friend, but then follow it with wink and a smile. So I’m fulfilled to hear that I have caused notable emotional scarring for you.

But really, I’m too flighty to keep focused on something as complicated and demanding as “The Twitter”. I’ll work on it…but really, by tomorrow I will have forgotten about this entire conversation.

A Summer of Bourbon Barrels and Brettanomyces

Port Brewing / The Lost Abbey queues up four releases for June and July

San Marcos, Calif. – Get ready for the wild and barreled this summer because Port Brewing / The Lost Abbey will be issuing four beers in the next couple of months ; two aged for a year in used bourbon barrels, and two fermented with the wild yeast, Brettanomyces. The releases are as follows:

    Mo’ Betta Bretta

An all Brettanomyces beer, Mo’s Betta is a collaboration beer between The Lost Abbey’s Tome Arthur and New Belgium’s Peter Bouckaert. The pair originally brewed this beer in 2004 while Tomme was head brewer for the Solana Beach location of our sister operation, Pizza Port. This is the first time the two have produced the beer since. Earlier this year they also collaborated on a Brett version of New Belgium’s Lips of Faith. A large enough batch of this beer was produced to send it into the full Port/Los Abbey distribution network in both bottle and draft formats. Expected release is the week of June 11, 2012.

    The Angel’s Share – Bourbon Barrel-aged

The sixth annual release of our famed barrel-aged barleywine, The Angel’s Share spends a full year resting in used bourbon barrels before release. Limited quantities of this beer will reach our full distribution network in both bottle and draft formats. Expected release is the week of June 18, 2012.

    Santa’s Little Helper – Bourbon Barrel-aged

The 2012 release of our Santa’s Little Helper aged in used bourbon barrels for a year. We always release this one in conjunction with our annual Christmas in July celebration and fundraiser. Very limited quantities of this will reach our distribution network in both bottle and draft formats. Expected release is July 14, 2012.

    Ten Commandments

The 2012 vintage of our strong farmhouse ale brewed with raisins and rosemary and topped off with a little Brettanomyces at bottling. Delicious when released, by the time autumn, cooler weather and the holidays roll around, the Brett dries the initial sweetness and turns this beer from great to spectacular. This beer will reach our full distribution network in both bottle and draft formats, and should be available on shelves for several months. Expected release is the week of July 22, 2012.

Please note release dates are estimates and subject to change based on the whims of the barrels and brett. Arrival in our distribution network on the East Coast is generally two weeks after the initial release date (to allow for shipping).
