Box Set Track 6 Releases This Saturday, June 16, 2012

Load the cooler and gas up the beast because we’re going on a roadtrip! This Saturday, June 16, 2012 we’re releasing Track 6 in our Ultimate Box Set series.

Track 6 is an ode to AC/DC’s 1979 musical monster, Highway to Hell. A Fresh Track as big and black as the AC/DC anthem, Track 6 is a blend of 2009 Bourbon Angel’s Share and Brandy barrel-aged Serpent’s Stout. At 14.3% ABV it’ll have all of your senses ringing like Angus Young’s guitar.

You’ll find the beer details (blend, ABV, liner notes, album art, etc.) on the website here. Details on the other Box Set beers can be found on the Box Set home page.

As with all Box Set releases, the beers must be consumed on site, same day. Unopened bottles may not be carried out. Each bottle is 375ml and is $15 each.

A Summer of Bourbon Barrels and Brettanomyces

Port Brewing / The Lost Abbey queues up four releases for June and July

San Marcos, Calif. – Get ready for the wild and barreled this summer because Port Brewing / The Lost Abbey will be issuing four beers in the next couple of months ; two aged for a year in used bourbon barrels, and two fermented with the wild yeast, Brettanomyces. The releases are as follows:

    Mo’ Betta Bretta

An all Brettanomyces beer, Mo’s Betta is a collaboration beer between The Lost Abbey’s Tome Arthur and New Belgium’s Peter Bouckaert. The pair originally brewed this beer in 2004 while Tomme was head brewer for the Solana Beach location of our sister operation, Pizza Port. This is the first time the two have produced the beer since. Earlier this year they also collaborated on a Brett version of New Belgium’s Lips of Faith. A large enough batch of this beer was produced to send it into the full Port/Los Abbey distribution network in both bottle and draft formats. Expected release is the week of June 11, 2012.

    The Angel’s Share – Bourbon Barrel-aged

The sixth annual release of our famed barrel-aged barleywine, The Angel’s Share spends a full year resting in used bourbon barrels before release. Limited quantities of this beer will reach our full distribution network in both bottle and draft formats. Expected release is the week of June 18, 2012.

    Santa’s Little Helper – Bourbon Barrel-aged

The 2012 release of our Santa’s Little Helper aged in used bourbon barrels for a year. We always release this one in conjunction with our annual Christmas in July celebration and fundraiser. Very limited quantities of this will reach our distribution network in both bottle and draft formats. Expected release is July 14, 2012.

    Ten Commandments

The 2012 vintage of our strong farmhouse ale brewed with raisins and rosemary and topped off with a little Brettanomyces at bottling. Delicious when released, by the time autumn, cooler weather and the holidays roll around, the Brett dries the initial sweetness and turns this beer from great to spectacular. This beer will reach our full distribution network in both bottle and draft formats, and should be available on shelves for several months. Expected release is the week of July 22, 2012.

Please note release dates are estimates and subject to change based on the whims of the barrels and brett. Arrival in our distribution network on the East Coast is generally two weeks after the initial release date (to allow for shipping).

Box Set Track 5 Releases Saturday May 19, 2012

This Saturday, May 19, 2012 will mark the release of our fifth track in our epic Ultimate Box Set series.

Track 5, an homage to Motley Crüe’s over-the-top anthem Shout at the Devil, features a pair of our best fruited sours, Red Poppy and Framboise de Amorosa, bumped with enough additional fruit satisfy anyone’s cherry and raspberry-popping desire. After blending it was sent to rest in French Oak until it was of age.

The Lost Abbey “faut être deux” at World Beer Cup

Brewery grabs a gold for Carnevale and the bronze for Gift of the Magi in the French and Belgian ale categories

Call us “L’Abbaye Perdu” because the 2012 World Beer Cup was here in San Diego last week, and we walked away with not one, but two medals in the French and Belgian Ales categories. Carnevale took a gold in the French & Belgian Saison category (it also took a gold at the Great American Beer Festival in 2009 for the same), while Gift of the Magi landed a bronze in the French & Belgian Ale category.

All in all not a bad showing for a bunch of guys (and gals) from San Diego. All we have to say to our brewers is — a votre santé!

Saturday May 12, 2012
Come party with Port Brewing and The Lost Abbey crew and help us celebrate our 6th Anniversary.

As in previous years we’ll be breaking the party into two four-hour sessions and limiting the number of guests so we’ll all have plenty of elbow room and everyone can relax and enjoy themselves.

Items planned for our day-long festivities include a full tap line-up in the tasting room (including some special kegs from the barrel archives) amazing food from a trio of guest chefs, great music, and, of course, the company of your fellow beer aficionados.

Brews, Food and Entertainment

Brews: Following our anniversary tradition, we’ll be loading our taps with the latest and greatest of our beers, including Anniversary Ale #6, Anniversary — our hoppy, strong pale ale from the Port Brewing side of the house.

DOBO Tomme Arthur will also be delving into the storied Lost Abbey barrel and bottle archives to give guests an opportunity to sample rare brews from the past. (Look for special bottles, and secret taps all day long!)

Food: For those of you who enjoy five star food, this year we’ll have three food trucks on hand in a veritable Gourmet Food Court of artisan pizzas, Baja-style seafood and smoky, delicious barbecue.

Ultimate Box Set Track 4 Releases April 21, 2012

Double Release: Framboise de Amorosa Releases Same Day

This Saturday, April 21, 2012 will mark the release of our fourth track in our now famed Ultimate Box Set series.

Track 4, a paean to The Rolling Stone’s Sympathy for the Devil, is a black-as-night blend from our Remixed Tracks. A blend of a base component from 2011’s Veritas 009, and red wine French Oak-aged Hot Rocks, the beer details (blend, ABV, liner notes, album art, etc.) are on the website here.

special notes: Framboise de Amorosa will also be released on April 21, so we are doing things a bit differently. PLEASE READ BELOW FOR MORE INFO.

  • Extended Tasting Room Hours: Because we are expecting larger than usual crowds, we will be opening our doors from 9am to 7pm.
  • Beer Reservations: We know many will want both Track 4 and FdA, so we will begin IDing and wristbanding people for the beers at 8am. If you arrive early (i.e., before 9am) to ensure you get bottles, please line up on the loading ramp leading into the tasting room. As with previous releases you will be able to pay in line and be issued a ticket/receipt that ensures your allotment.
  • Allotments and Restrictions:
    • Track 4 – As with all Box Set releases, the beers must be consumed on site, same day. Bottles may not be carried out. The bottles are 375ml and are $15 each.
    • Framboise de Amorosa – As with past releases, Amorosa is also in 375ml bottles; $15 each with a six bottle per patron limit. (Yes, you can take the FdA away with you).
  • Special Taps: Framboise de Amoroa will be on draft as 4 ounce tasters only. Tasters are $3 each.

Because Amorosa will not go into general distribution, demand is expected to be higher than some of our other releases. If you wish to avoid the crowds and be assured of getting bottles of Track 4 and/or FdA, we recommend that you arrive earlier rather than later.
