Vodcast #11 The Lost Abbey Propaganda

A long time ago (well, 2004) in a Pizza Port not so far away (Solana Beach, CA), Tomme Arthur and New Belgium’s Peter Bouckaert brewed an all Brettanomyces beer they called Mo’ Betta Bretta.

The two recently joined forces once again — this time at The Lost Abbey — to do a refresh of that beer. Here’s a quick look at the 2012 Mo’ Betta Bretta releasing early this summer.

Sixth Anniversary Party

Saturday May 12, 2012
Come party with Port Brewing and The Lost Abbey crew and help us celebrate our 6th Anniversary.

As in previous years we’ll be breaking the party into two four-hour sessions and limiting the number of guests so we’ll all have plenty of elbow room and everyone can relax and enjoy themselves.

Items planned for our day-long festivities include a full tap line-up in the tasting room (including some special kegs from the barrel archives) amazing food from a trio of guest chefs, great music, and, of course, the company of your fellow beer aficionados.

Brews, Food and Entertainment

Brews: Following our anniversary tradition, we’ll be loading our taps with the latest and greatest of our beers, including Anniversary Ale #6, Anniversary — our hoppy, strong pale ale from the Port Brewing side of the house.

DOBO Tomme Arthur will also be delving into the storied Lost Abbey barrel and bottle archives to give guests an opportunity to sample rare brews from the past. (Look for special bottles, and secret taps all day long!)

Food: For those of you who enjoy five star food, this year we’ll have three food trucks on hand in a veritable Gourmet Food Court of artisan pizzas, Baja-style seafood and smoky, delicious barbecue.

Ultimate Box Set Track 4 Releases April 21, 2012

Double Release: Framboise de Amorosa Releases Same Day

This Saturday, April 21, 2012 will mark the release of our fourth track in our now famed Ultimate Box Set series.

Track 4, a paean to The Rolling Stone’s Sympathy for the Devil, is a black-as-night blend from our Remixed Tracks. A blend of a base component from 2011’s Veritas 009, and red wine French Oak-aged Hot Rocks, the beer details (blend, ABV, liner notes, album art, etc.) are on the website here.

special notes: Framboise de Amorosa will also be released on April 21, so we are doing things a bit differently. PLEASE READ BELOW FOR MORE INFO.

  • Extended Tasting Room Hours: Because we are expecting larger than usual crowds, we will be opening our doors from 9am to 7pm.
  • Beer Reservations: We know many will want both Track 4 and FdA, so we will begin IDing and wristbanding people for the beers at 8am. If you arrive early (i.e., before 9am) to ensure you get bottles, please line up on the loading ramp leading into the tasting room. As with previous releases you will be able to pay in line and be issued a ticket/receipt that ensures your allotment.
  • Allotments and Restrictions:
    • Track 4 – As with all Box Set releases, the beers must be consumed on site, same day. Bottles may not be carried out. The bottles are 375ml and are $15 each.
    • Framboise de Amorosa – As with past releases, Amorosa is also in 375ml bottles; $15 each with a six bottle per patron limit. (Yes, you can take the FdA away with you).
  • Special Taps: Framboise de Amoroa will be on draft as 4 ounce tasters only. Tasters are $3 each.

Because Amorosa will not go into general distribution, demand is expected to be higher than some of our other releases. If you wish to avoid the crowds and be assured of getting bottles of Track 4 and/or FdA, we recommend that you arrive earlier rather than later.

Meet Michelle B!

Michelle

When I first started to interview Michelle, she would only answer my questions with questions. I asked her “How are you doing today” and she would reply with “Do you enjoy watching paint dry?”. This went on for about an hour, I kept asking different questions and she kept asking me if I enjoyed watching paint dry. After downing two Hop 15’s, I decided I would answer her question… “No, Michelle, I don’t enjoy watching paint dry”. She responded with “Good, you’ve passed the test, now we may begin the interview”. Then she  impersonated Shang Tsung from the movie Mortal Kombat and yelled “It Has Begun!”. CLICK HERE if you don’t know what I mean.

1. What is your go-to Karaoke song and would you sing it for us?
The ancient art of Kara-oke is truly my favorite thing to do on a daily basis. I love to sing anything written by the great and wonderfully talented Michael Bolton. Yes, I think think we should have a Lost Abbey Karaoke night!

2. Who would you be in the “Game of Thrones” universe? (and don’t say a dragon, everyone wants to be a dragon)
Game of Thrones isn’t my cup of tea. I prefer Antiques Road Show

3. What’s your hidden talent? (Follow up question: Why do you hide it?)
I love knitting outfits for my cats while watching Antiques Road Show. I’ve kept this a secret because I know everyone would hit me up for my awesome cat active-wear.

4. If you had to choose one celebrity to record your voicemail message, who would it be?
Definitely Will Ferrell as Harry Carey

5. Word around the brewery is you are really into video games, if you created a Lost Abbey video game, who would be the hero? (Tomme wants to be the Final Boss, so you can’t pick him)
Without a doubt in my mind…. Kevin Hopkins is the hero of the Lost Abbey Video Game –  (this question was brought to you by Kevin Hopkins Publishing… Check out their newest cookbook “To Serve Man”)

6. What CD is in your car right now?
This new band that is pretty awesome named Dead Feather Moon

7. If we bought you a “Soda Stream” for Christmas (btw: we’re not planning on it), what would be the first drink you’d make?
I did get a soda stream for Christmas 2 years ago and the first soda I made was root beer!
