Meet Matt Webster

Matt Webster: Lead Brewer for Port Brewing and The Lost Abbey

MattWebster2

Matt came to Port Brewing Co. a year and a half ago from North Coast Brewing where he brewed for two years.  Before that he graduated from Metropolitan College of Denver where he majored in Business Management.  College is where he found his love of good beer and where he learned to homebrew in his garage.  Before college he spent four years in the Marine Corps Infantry. To further get to know Matt, we asked him some random questions we found on the internet:

1. What’s your Spirit Animal?
My Spirit Animal would be a Wolf

2. Favorite Movie Quote?
“I wish it were winter, we could make it into ice blocks and skate on it! And then melt it in the springtime and drink it!” (Beerfest)

3. Favorite Preparation of Pork?
Pork Belly

4. During the Zombie Apocalypse, where would be your dream spot to set up camp?
The Lost Abbey Brewery, because of the water filtration capabilities, grain storage and easy roof-top access. Or the Playboy Mansion, because they would have good security and I could (comment removed by management)

5. Picture this: It’s been a long day, you’ve been in heels for 8 hours straight, you just want to go home and take a bath… which cd are you playing in the background?
I’m playing Dido in the tub, with a glass of vino and some scented candles lit

6. Fries or Onion Rings?
Seasoned Fries of course!

7. Let’s say your beard is akin to Samson’s hair (your source of power), who would be your celebrity Delilah?
It’s common knowledge that my power IS in my beard, and my celebrity Delilah would be Jessica Rabbit.

That’s Matt Webster in a nutshell! Cheers!

Vodcast #6 The Lost Abbey Propaganda

At the end of February we had our Commercial Conclave winner flown into San Diego to shoot his idea for a Port Brewing/Lost Abbey commercial. Unfortunately, a bright sunny day was essential for his idea to work, and when we arrived at the Carlsbad Beach on Friday February 24th it was dark and gloomy. However, we were insistent on shooting something; we weren’t going to fly Mario out here and not shoot anything.  So, we goofed around, drank some beer, did some brainstorming, and shot this.

Watch Online

We love Mario’s original idea, and still plan on shooting it at the end off this month.

Box Set Track 3 Releases Saturday, March 17

Double Sour Special Hours: Red Poppy Releases Same Day

This Saturday, March 17, 2012 will mark the release of our third track in our now famed Ultimate Box Set series.

Track 3, a tribute to AC/DC’s head-banging anthem Hell’s Bells, is a pale sour and the second of our Remixed Tracks. A blend of Mellow Yellow and Phunky Duck barrels, the beer details (blend, ABV, liner notes, album art, etc.) are on the website here.

special notes: Red Poppy will also be released on March 17, so we are doing things a bit differently. PLEASE READ BELOW FOR MORE INFO.

  • Extended Tasting Room Hours: Because we are expecting larger than usual crowds (two releases and St Patrick's Day), we will be opening our doors from 9am to 7pm. The MIHO Gastrotruck will be onsite with breakfast specials from 8am – 11am and a special lunch MENU from 11am -7pm.
  • Beer Reservations: We know many will want both Track 3 and Red Poppy, so we will begin IDing and wristbanding people for the beers at 8am. If you arrive early (i.e., before 9am) to ensure you get bottles, please line up on the loading ramp leading into the tasting room. As with previous releases you will be able to pay in line and be issued a ticket/receipt that ensures your allotment.
  • Allotments and Restrictions:
    • Track 3 – As with all Box Set releases, the beers must be consumed on site, same day. Bottles may not be carried out. The bottles are 375ml and are $15 each.
    • Red Poppy – As with past releases, Red Poppy is also 375ml bottles; $15 each with a six bottle per patron limit.(Yes, you can take Red Poppy away with you).
  • Special Taps: Red Poppy will be on draft as 4 ounce tasters only. Tasters are $3 each.

Because this event happens to coincide with St Patrick's Day, we expect larger that usual crowds after noon. If you wish to avoid the crowds and be assured of getting bottles of Track 3 / Red Poppy, we recommend that you arrive earlier rather than later.
